To get started

First decide on the hair bow that you wish to make. I bought my designs from Designbundles.net.

Once you have your design you need to upload the design into design space.  To do this load up design space and click on the upload button.

You will then be taken to the upload screen, click on upload image, on the next screen click on the browse button and search your computer until you find the design you want. When you have found the design click on the file and then click on open.

You should now see your design, if you are happy with the design click on the upload button in the bottom right hand corner. You should now see your design in the recent uploads list.

Click on the design and you will see a green box around the outside of the design. You now need to click add to canvas in the bottom right corner and this will place the design on your canvas.

Preparing your bow design

Now your design is on your canvas you can either resize it to the size you require or you can make it as per the size of the design. For my design I wanted to make the bow in two different colours so in order to do this I clicked on the ungroup button in the top right corner.

By doing this it has now split up the file so I can select the individual pieces of the design. I didn’t alter the size of the bow but I moves the pieces about on my canvas.

I grouped together the pieces as per the colour I wanted them to be, I also changed the colour of these to make them easier to identify.

By changing the colour of the deign it also means that they will automatically be separated onto different mats when I click on make it. Once I am happy, I have all the pieces placed together I need to select all the pieces and click on attach. This will keep them all together and cut them exactly as I have them placed on the mat. Do this again for the remaining pieces of your design.

Make it

Now you are ready to make your design. Check your machine is selected (in my case it is the maker) next click on make it. This will take you to the screen showing your mat. If you are happy with the position of your design, click on continue.

Choose your materials

Now you need to choose the materials you wish to use.

I used faux leather, to find the setting for faux leather click on the browse all materials and type in faux leather. Select the faux leather paper thin setting and click continue.

You will now see faux leather selected as your chosen material. For the pressure I always select more as we always want the best cut possible. Click the flashing cricut button and the machine will start cutting your bow pieces.

If you are using different colours repeat the steps above for the all the different colours required.

Assembling your bow

The cut out pieces of the bow on the desk ready for assembly.

Once all your pieces have been cut you are now ready to start assembling your bow together. Start by gluing your pieces of faux leather in the middle folding over and holding one side at a time.

As the pieces are quite small, I found that putting hot glue onto a matchstick gave me more control over the position of the glue and made less mess Repeat this for again for remaining bow pieces.

Using a cocktail stick to add the hot glue into the centre of the smallest bow piece.

Once all the pieces are glued together start to assemble your bow together. Start with the bottom piece and add glue into the centre, stick on the next part and add glue to the centre. Keep building your bow up in this way until all your bow pieces are stuck together.

Next, I flipped over my bow and glued the hair clip onto the back.

For the centre strip of material, I added some glue to the front of the bow and attached the strip of faux leather. Then flip over the bow and open up the clip.

I then added a really small amount of glue inside the hair clip and folded over the faux leather and held it down until it was stuck. I repeated this for the other side too. Make sure the glue Is dry before closing the clip as you don’t want the clip to become glued closed.
