How to create stunning Instagram Roses

Instagram roses make a lovely addition to your home or a lovely gift for a special person. I really like them so I thought I would have a go at making them. It was really surprising just how easy they were to make. I want to share with you what you need to do to make them for yourself.

Preparing the hat box

Firstly we need to pop the 1/2 block of foam inside the hat box. You can glue these in if you wish to but i'm just placing mine in.

Now we need to start cutting down the roses (or the flowers you have chosen to use) using the wire cutters. Make sure they are cut short enough so they can stick in the foam block and be positioned at the height you want them to be.

Arranging the flowers

Start by placing the flowers around the side of the box, keeping them close together. You don't want to have any big gaps.

Once all the outer layer is complete start another layer just on the inside of the flowers you have just used.

When I started my inner layer I tried to position the roses so they were slightly offset to the first row.

When you have finished that row you should still have a small gap in the middle at the top.

If that is the case then just pop some more of your roses in the gap to fill it

Now your box is full of roses you can spend a few minutes just making sure you are happy with them and making any adjustments so they all look even.

Making the bow

I used a black and white ribbon as it was a good contrast to the pink box.

I tried to tie the perfect bow as my ribbon is not black and white on both sides. Trying to tie the bow so the stripes are on the outside of the ribbon on both sides was quite tricky but I found the trick to it.

Take your ribbon and position it around the centre of the box to measure how much you need and then cut it.

Now tie the ribbon and hold it as tight as you can. Make a loop with the ribbon in your right hand and then move that over towards the left side of your box.

With the remaining piece of ribbon, pull that forwards over the ribbon you are holding in your right hand.

My little trick to making this the perfect bow is to then twist the ribbon a couple of times. Then push the ribbon back up through the loop you have just made and pull it tight. This did take me several tries to get it tight enough and looking as I wanted it to look. Stick with it and just tie it again if it's not right the first time.
