How To Weld Using Cricut Design Space

If you are using design space you might be wondering what the weld feature does and when to use it. In this blog I will be explaining what the the weld feature is. Also how to weld using cricut design space and what the benefits are.

Selecting your text

Load up your blank canvas in design space and click on the text icon on the left hand side. You will see a text box appear.

In the text box start typing the word that you wish to weld.

Changing the font

In order to weld you need to have the letters touching. Now is a good time to select a more cursive font for your word. Click on the font box at the top of the canvas.

You will now have an option to choose a cricut font or a font that you have purchased and downloaded. Also if you know the name of the font you wish to use just type it into the search fonts box.

I knew I wanted to use the font Blonde unicorn so I typed that in the search font box.

Cricut will then find the font and if you are happy with it you can select the font.

You should now be able to see the font on the canvas has changed to your selected font.

Take a look at the design and you will see that in-between the letters there are lines. This is where the letters join together. If you was to cut this word out now then cricut would make a cut along those lines.

Selecting the text

In order to weld the text, first select all the word. This can be done by clicking on select all which is at the top of the canvas.

Once the word has all been selected, you will then see a box around the word.

Another way to select all the word is to drag a box around the word.

Welding the text

Once all the text is selected, head down to the bottom of the canvas and click on the weld icon.

This will weld all of your text together. If you take another look at the text, especially where the letters join. You will now be able to see that all the small lines have disappeared. If you was to cut this text out now, cricut would cut it as one word with no lines in-between the letters. The weld features allows you to join together text and images and cut them out without any joining lines.

The main point to remember is that once you have welded text or a design then it is permanent. The only time you can reverse the welding is at the time. Once you save the design it is too late.

To reverse the weld feature head up to the top of the canvas and click on the back arrow. This will undo the welding and allow you to make changes.
