How to clean your cutting mat

With continuous use, your mats can get pretty dirty and lose their stickiness. As mats can be quite expensive any trick to keep them for longer is a bonus. Keep reading and I will show you how to clean your cutting mat so you can keep using them for longer.

Getting prepared

You really don't need anything other than a pack of baby wipes to clean your mats. If you can find unfragranced baby wipes they do tend to work better.

Standard grip cricut cutting mat and a packet of baby wipes

Remove a baby wipe from the packet and scrunch it up into a ball. Apply a small amount of pressure and start to move the baby wipe around in a circular motion.

Straight away you will be able to see dirt being lifted from the mat.

Keep using the baby wipe. Once one part of the baby wipe is dirty, unfold it and use a clean part of the baby wipe. Repeat this until all the baby wipe is dirty. Then just take a new baby wipe and continue.

Clean the whole mat

Some parts of the mat will be dirtier than other. I like to clean all of the mat to be sure I am starting off with a fresh cleaner mat again.

During cleaning the mat it will feel wet and not sticky at all. This is quite normal and nothing to worry about. Once the mat has dried, the stickiness will return. It won't be as sticky as when it was new but it will be a lot better than before you cleaned it.

Don't be surprised if your baby wipes look like the ones in the picture below. It's a good sign. It shows you have removed all the grim and dirt from your mat.
