Step 1 Cutting the pattern
Take the material that you are using for your pumpkins. If you are using plush material like I did make sure the stretch of the material is the right direction. Using theĀ pumpkin template, draw around the template 4 times. Also draw around the template for the top of the pumpkin.
I used a material pen for this part. You can use any pen that won't show through the material. Once sewn all the pen marks will be on the inside.
Step 2 Cutting the material
Cut out all the pieces of your pumpkin. Leave a small seam allowance all around the edge. Once they are cut out they should look like the picture below
Step 3 pinning the material
Pin the parts of the pumpkin together. Fold the fabric in half ready to sew the top part of the pumpkin. I pinned this together.
For the segments of the pumpkin. Fold them right sides together and pin them.
Step 4 Sewing the pumpkin
Sew along the straight line. Making sure that the material remains folded when sewing.
Once sewn open the fabric up and it should look like the picture below. Sew all 4 pieces so they all look the same.
Next, place 2 of the material segments right sides together. Pin them in place ready for sewing. Repeat this for the other 2 segments.
Sew the 2 pieces of material down one side. Sew from top to bottom.
Once sewn and opened up the material should now look like the picture below.
Step 5 Assembling the pumpkin
Now you are ready to sew next part of the pumpkin. Take the 2 pieces of material that you now have, place them right sides together and pin them together. Sew all the way around the edge of them both. This will form the pumpkin shape. Leave a gap at the top so you can stuff the pumpkin.
Also sew the top part of the pumpkin and trim away the excess material.
Using the toy stuffing stuff the pumpkin and the top part of the pumpkin.
Step 6 Sewing up the gap
Using a needle and thread sew up the gap at the top of the pumpkin. I used a ladder stitch for this, you can sew this in any way you prefer.
Once, the gap has been sewn up then sew the top part of the pumpkin onto the pumpkin. Again, I used a ladder stitch for this but you can use any stitch you prefer.
Now your pumpkin is all complete and ready to admire.
