Step 1
Load the material that you are using into the embroidery hoop. I am using pink felt.

Pull the material so that it sits nice and tight in the hoop. Tighten the hoop by screwing the top of the embroidery hoop tight to hold the material in place.

Step 2
Cut some paper hearts and place them on the material. Using a fabric pen draw around the hearts.

Remove the paper hearts. Using a fabric pen will allow the pen marks to be removed once you have finished sewing them.

Step 3
Start sewing the hearts using a satin stitch. Start at the bottom of the hearts, pushing the needle up through the back of the material. Keep the embroidery thread in a straight line and push the needle back down into the material at the top of the heart. Repeat this until all the hearts are covered with the embroidery thread.

I used the same satin stitch for all the hearts.

Step 4
To tidy up the excess material, cut the material all the way around the edge of the hoop. Be sure to cut the material as close as possible to the hoop.

Step 5
To prepare a backing for the hoop, sit the hoop on the material and using the fabric pen draw around the edge. Then, cut out the circle using fabric scissors.

To attach the backing material to the hoop I used hot glue. This secured the felt really well and is a great way to hide the back of the stitches.

Now your embroidery hoop is all finished and has the cutest satin stitch hearts sewn on it.
