Step 1

Take your socks and remove from the packaging. Cut one of the socks just above the heel. These socks will make 2 pumpkins. If you wish to use the other part of the sock just cut off the heel part and you are ready to go.

Step 2

Take the thread you are using. I tried to match the thread to the socks but don't worry if you don't have matching thread.

Thread a needle with the thread. I doubled the thread to make it a bit stronger.

Tie the thread. I tied mine multiple times to try and get a bigger knot in the bottom so it didn't pull through the sock material.

Opening the thread that I am going to be using.

Step 3

Now you are ready to stitch the socks.

Sew a running stitch all around the top of the sock material. Make sure you leave a small gap, approx 1/2 inch from the top of the sock.

Once you have sewn all the way around. Fold over the top part of the sock and then pull on the thread to gather all the sock material to close the gap.

Tucking the top of the sock over after I have sewn a running stitch around the top ready to gather in and fill the gap.

Step 4

Secure the bottom of the sock by sewing a few stitches through the sock material to prevent it from coming unstitched. It should look like the picture below.

Step 5

Fill your sock with stuffing and sew up in the same way as you did for the bottom of the sock.

You sock should now look like the one below, with both ends sewn up.

Step 6

Thread a longer needle with the same colour thread. Push the needle up through the bottom of the sock ball and out through the top. Now wrap your thread around your sock and sew up through the bottom of the sock ball so your needle comes out the top. Pull the thread tight, to make an indent in the sock.

Sewing through the centre of the sock and then wrapping thread around the outside of the sock and back through the centre

Continue to repeat this process so your pumpkin looks like the one below.

Step 7

I added rolled up brown felt to look like a stork and green felt leaves which I secured with hot glue. You can decorate the top of your pumpkin with whatever supplies you have or choose.

Then your pumpkin is complete and ready to add to your autumn decor.
