How to make a happy birthday banner using cricut

With birthdays happening every year, I think a great way to save money on banners is to make your own. In this blog I am going to share how to make a happy birthday banner using cricut and card. This banner is really simple to make and can be used over and over again. You could even get really creative and make a themed birthday banner. If you have a cricut then you really have no excuse not to make your own birthday banners.

Materials I used:

Supplies I used: Cricut maker,

Step 1

Load up the design space canvas and start typing in the letters for Happy Birthday. If you have a font you would like your letters to be in, now is the time to change your font. Fonts can be changed by clicking in the font box and selecting a cricut font or a font you have purchased.

Step 2

To select all the letters click on the select all icon at the top of the screen. Once all the letters are selected click on centre. This will centre all the letters together.

Step 3

Once all the letters have been centred now is the time to change the size. Head up to the size box at the top of the canvas and change the size to the size you want your letters to be. I made my letters 4 inches high and it changed the width to be 3.621 inches. This is by far the easiest and quickest way I have found to change the size of all the letters.

Step 4

Next, we need to choose the colours we want the letters to be. My tip for changing the colours is also quite a quick way. When you have decided on your colours, select the letters in the layers panel at the side of the canvas. When the letter is selected head up to the operation box and change the colour to be a similar colour to your card. This will really help you when it comes to cutting the letters. Repeat this process until all the letters have been changed to the colour of your choice.

Step 5

Now we are ready to cut the letters. As we have changed the colours of the letters it is now showing 5 different mats, in different colours. Each mat has different letters on. This is why it was important to change the letters to be different colours.

Step 6

Once you are happy with the letters and the colours the materials need to be selected. I have selected medium card stock for my card as my card is 160gsm, so falls within the medium card stock range. I also like to select the pressure to be more. This gives the card a really nice clean cut.

Step 7

Once the card has been cut I like to quickly check that it has cut all the way through the card. I check the card by carefully lifting up the edge of the letter before I unload the mat.

You need to do this step before you unload the mat as if it is not cut properly you can simply press the cricut button and it will cut it again in exactly the same place. Once the mat is unloaded, if you reloaded it to cut again the cut might not be as accurate and ruin your letters.

Step 8

Once all the letters have been cut. The next step is to punch holes in the top of all the letters.

Finally, thread the ribbon through the top of all the letters. I cut enough ribbon so I could tie a loop in each end so I can hang the happy birthday banner up.

I think this is a really simple but cute happy birthday banner that could be used multiple times a year. This will also save you money on having to keep buying happy birthday banners.
