I love these little cute flags that I see all over social media. They are super popular on sites such as Etsy. The other thing I like about them is that I feel they can be tailored for any occasion. Even better they can be made to match any decor. In this blog I will show you step by step how to make a mini felt flag.
The materials that you will need are:

Step 1 Preparing the felt
Using the flag template, copy the flag design onto the felt. For best results I used a fabric pen so that it would not leave any pen marks.
Either, cut the flag design out flat or fold the material and the template in half and cut it that way. I personally prefer to fold the material and the flag in half to cut it.
If it is easier draw around the template and use a ruler to make sure that the lines are straight.

Step 2 Leave a space for the dowel
Draw a line along the fold of the flag. I left a space of just over 1 cm. Make sure that you measure the dowel that you are using so you leave a space big enough for the dowel to fit.

Step 3 Sew along the edge of the flag
Either by hand or using a sewing machine, sew all around the edge of the flag. Leave a small gap at the bottom of the flag so that you can insert the wooden dowel.

Step 4 Preparing the vinyl letters
In Cricut design space load up a new canvas and click on the text box. This will bring up a text box for you to add the text that you wish to use on your flags.
Change the font by clicking on the font box and selecting a font you wish wish to use.

When you are happy with the font, change the size of the text by clicking on the size box at the top of the canvas. Type in the size you want the text to be. When you are happy with the size of your text, click on make it.

When you see the text on the mat, make sure that you mirror the text. It is always important to mirror heat transfer vinyl before you cut it. Click continue.

Select the materials that you are going to use. I chose Premium vinyl as I find this setting gives me a really good clean cut.

When selecting the pressure I always chose the pressure to be more.

Step 4 Adding the letters to the flag
Now the letters are all cut and weeded they should look like the picture below.

Position the word onto the front of your flag, trying to make it as central as possible.

When you are happy with the position of the word, apply heat to it. I used my mini heat press.

Trim away all the excess material from around the edge of your flag. I left a 1/2 cm gap so that I did not cut too close to my stitches. I feel this also makes it look nice and neat.

Finally you need to add your dowel into your flag.
You now have a really cute mini felt flag that will make a great addition to any occasion.
